“Freaks” opens People Made Of Paper and sets the scene for Dirtbox Disco’s sound with a singalong chorus…the theme of the album. It’s also probably the heaviest track.
“My Life Is Shit” is not going to win any awards for the most deep and meaningful lyrics but like Freaks, it’s a good singalong song, I can imagine it going down really well live. The bass steals the show on “She’s My Baby”. I do love a good bass solo and it’s not often you hear them these days.
“What You Gonna Do About It” is very much a f**k everyone anthem. We’re also informed that Dirt Box Disco are bastards and they love it. “Top Shelf” is about a fantasy girlfriend who, you guessed it, lives on the top shelf in the corner shop. The more I listen to this album, the catchier it becomes and considering some of the things these guys want to do to the bird on the top shelf, I hope I don’t end up singing this one in public.
“Round In Circles”, “My Dad Is Bigger Than Your Dad”,“My Girlfriend’s Best Friend’s Sister” and “You Think You Know Me” continue the punk singalong fun before we find out what the “Aftershow Girlies” get up to. This song reminds me of a Steel Panther concert…and the things that folk get up to after one.
“All For One” and “Punk Rock N Porno” close People Made Of Paper with yet more excitement about punk and all the joy it appears to bring to these guys.
