“Every Man For Himself Issue 1” is the latest release from Texan band Downfall 2012. The band are Danny Gil – Vocals, Guitar, Boo Rogers – Bass/ Vocals, Casey Bowen – Drums/ Vocals. They have been touring the US over the last few years and also releasing their music independently often through crowd funding from their ever growing fan base.
“EMFHI1” is more than just a brutal assault on your ears, it is part of a story, laid out over 3 albums and the sound, although similar to many Hard Rock/ Metal acts from the US, (FFDP, Killswitch & RATM spring to mind) is fairly unique. The use of extra percussion and multi layered vocals set this apart from the norm.
The opening track “Face to Face” is a full on assault that demands attention, it is a powerful track that sets the pace of the album.
The second track “Divinty” is my favourite track on the album, another track that keeps a breakneck pace from start to finish punctuated by some excellent vocal harmonies and manic rap very reminiscent of System of a Down.
“Toy Box” has a rock/reggae feel to the verses before once again punching you in the face during the chorus.
“Never Sell a Lie” brings a funky bass line into the mix, it doesn’t move too far away from the overall feel of the album but does add a nice twist that captures the attention.
“Family Fortune” brings the whole album together with a much rockier traditional sound, earthy and raw, and a great way to close.
