After 25 years the clan is back home! During the five years that Martyr was alive and kicking (1982-1987), the band released two albums that are considered to be cult classics in the metal scene today. Guitarist Rick Bouwman chats to TBFM’s Mucka Jay…
What was the last album you purchased?
The latest album I really purchased , hmm got to think about it as today I always listen to the albums on Spotify. The latestone on Spotify I listened to was the new Five Finger Death Punch, but the latest one I bought was Tremonti.
If your music could be used in an advert on TV, what would you most like it to be advertising?
What about our own beer? We have our won beer called The MARTYR eXperience, so advertise that one. It will fit 100%
If you were to do a cover of a song, what would it be and why?
In fact with MARTYR we just did a tribute to a Raven song for an upcoming Raven tribute album. We did “Don’t Need Your Money” because I think , although it was an early Raven song, for us as MARTYR when we started with the band we couldnt stop listening to that music when we were young. And personally was my 1st single I bought. It is still a GREAT song!
Dead or alive, which band would you most like to co-headline with?
Of course I can say the big names like Metallica, Maiden etc. But personally, as you mentioned dead or alive, I would like to co headline with any formation that Randy Rhoads ever played in. If we could only see that guy perform just once again !
What has been the most memorable moment in your musical career so far?
I think when our first album For The Universe came out mid 80’s. When you are young and have that first album on vinyl in your hands that is a remarkable and proud moment. Couldn’t stop watching the sleeve for hours.
If you had the opportunity to change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Difficult. I like the digital way of spreading music and the way we easily communicate in the time we are living in now just as much as I hate it. There is so much crap which is easy to release nowadays. But that I think will be difficult to change. Regarding the music industry meaning venues please stop asking bands to pay and play. It is simply ridiculous and to the bands: don’t accept it. You are spoiling the market.
