TBFM Factor 2014 has officially opened today for registrations. TBFM Factor is a virtual battle of the bands competition. This means that bands take part from the comfort of their chair and their fans can vote without being in a half empty venue.
So much stigma is connected with battle of the bands competitions that a lot of bands refuse to take part in them. Whether it be costs to play for free, dodgy judging or just not a big following on the night but this is where TBFM Factor shines.
The competition started in 2010 with 132 bands applying to take part. Its a weekly knockout where we play tracks from each band and listeners get to vote in a short space of time. In 2010 the eventual winners were Collision Process. In 2012 we brought the competition back but with a big prize attached… a record deal.
With 288 bands applying this time from 23 countries we realised this was going to be big. So much so, the server crashed twice with an overload of traffic to the website with 4 million hits in the final month. Over 27,000 votes were recorded and eventual winners were Hangfire from South Wales.
For 2014 we are expecting even more entries and have capped the competition off at a maximum of 500 bands. Pre-registration had almost 300 bands so we do think we will hit the peak during the registration period. The competition has attracted some very big prizes from some very big names in the music industry. We have the record deal in place again from Ripple Music as the top prize, 2 PR packages on offer from Stampede Press UK and Intune PR as well as a 12 month guitar strings endorsement from the UK division of Ernie Ball. Alt-Fest have kindly reserved a place on the SOPHIE stage at next years festival for one of the bands in the final too so its going to be a very awesome few months.
Registration is open to bands all over the world as long as they can submit 3 radio quality tracks before the closing date of 12 December 2013. We will then choose the top 100 bands to go through to the weekly heats where the judging is done by the fans via our website. As we progress the competition to the latter stages we will have guest judges from the music industry giving their views on the bands and having a vote too.
The final will be held on 18th May 2014 and there will be 2 weeks of voting before the winner is announced as TBFM turns 5 years old on 1st June 2014. More information on the prizes, the rules and dates for the competition can be found at http://www.tbfmfactor.com where bands can also register free to take part in the competition.
