At the beginning of 2014 The Idol Dead asked themselves a question – ‘Can we top our last fan-funded album and the experience it created’.
The resounding answer was ‘No – that’s not what we are about.”
What The Idol Dead are about is living in the moment and shooting straight from the heart – so they made sure this album wouldn’t be Dark Little Hearts 2, but an album that stood on its own ten feet!
Sure, fans, critics and the public will compare albums, and that’s what they should do – but a band should always wipe the slate clean and start with a vision of how that album should sound.
So that’s what they did and, unlike last time, they started the Pledge process before the album was written, just to push themselves and give the whole process a sense of excitement … after all, this could fail on every level.
First the pledge could not reach its goal and the songs would never make it to a recoding studio – but it did, 129% worth. The Idol Army, as the pledgers, friends and fans are known, stepped up once again and put their faith in the band.
So, that brought the second problem, – a mass of people had shelled out for an album that wasn’t yet written!
But, the faith and belief just pushed the lads further on – making them reach for the stars, try things they’d never tried and pull something out of themselves they didn’t even know was there.
And so, now, they are on the brink of releasing their 3rd full album – Hollow Point Curses.
The Idol Dead are very proud of this album – they haven’t reinvented the wheel, they haven’t discovered a new form of jazz fusion rock n roll – what they have done is created 11 well-crafted tunes packed full of riffs, melodies and great choruses – each note and beat played straight from the soul of each and every member.
The glue holding all this together was producer Carl Rosamond, very much the 6th Idol – a man so into the process, and the ethos, of the pledge he went through a personal hell to make sure this album was the very best it could be.
So, after that hyperbole what next?
The proof of the pudding is in the eating – and this dish was be served to a willing public at Eiger Studios in Leeds on 29th November at the official album launch… and now it will be taken around the country in December when The Idol Dead head out on the road with Richie Ramone.
Hollow Point Curses is released, worldwide, on Raaa! Records on 14th December– available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and at www.theidoldead.com
